Hi Nancy---Sorry you're having a difficult time. I still hope we'll ride together sometime. How is your horses lameness problem? Last we spoke, you had been to UT. Anyway, have you spoken with Mike in Clarkrange. I'd hate to see you move away from s…

I have two "barn" cats. Sold my farm last year and brought them with me. I have been amazed at how well they have adjusted to being "house" cats! You should really try taking them with you. If this is not possible and you can't find a home for them,…

Is there any place in TN that does not have the mud problem? Growing up in FL, when we thought of TN we thought of the mountains. I didn't realize that there was so much red clay! My husband has agreed to move from here as long as we stay in this st…

Do you think you could use the powder electrolytes mixed into the water? Would it freeze? I think you had a great idea.

In addition to this you can get a car tire and fill it with hay or other material to insulate. Then you place the bucket inside the center.

I agree with Mary & Diana's replies but would like to add .... age of horse and body score should be taken into the decision. It is important to remember that horses burn calories in order to stay warm. Also older horses (literature states 20+) gene…

Thanks for the tip regarding the auto shut off. I did not know about this option. Do you think that Co Op or TSC would carry this?

I'm hiring a licensed electrician as I know zip about electricity except to have great respect for it! I used heated buckets at my own farm in NC and had great luck with them. Like you, I did unplug when I turned them out. The electrician is going b…

I use the heated water buckets now, they are great. Make sure when you get your bucket that you get one that will shut itself off when it is empty. Some of them don't have those. The electrical items for water are much safer now than in the old days…

cheapestest way ive found is to go to lowes and ask for the underlay foam that goes under the floating hardwood floors, comes in a roll, wrap your buckets and bind with duct tape, even with it in the teens mine gererally only freezes a little on the to…

You have to be careful with those small water heater coils. They will start a fire if not supervised. One of those started a fire at Suffok Downs where I worked back in the 80'S AND THE BARN CAUGHT ON FIRE, in the feed room and we had to save all 40…

Thanks so much for the recipe. I'm definitely going to try it! There is electric in the barn but only lights and one outlet (for clippers). The woman that owns the barn has now agreed to let me hire an electrician and have an outlet put in by Doc's…

Oh and one other thing.... on cold, cold nights if nothing else, close up the barn, get lots of gator aid and give it to your horse in his bucket. A half bucket of the stuff mixed with water will provide needed electrolytes and keep the water from f…

I have given up trying to find a place to board my horse in Crossville. Does anyone out there know of a place in Cookeville? I need full board with turnout . I am really getting desperate!

Hi Nancy.. Thanks for your input on my blog.. My vet drew his blood and found that his redblood cell count had almost bottomed out.. he gave him steriods and iron and told me to stall him.. he told me that his immune system was fighting against itself.. which I have never heard of before.. but after doing some research I am thinking that he may have Guttural Pouch Mycosis.. which can be serious.. I have not taken him anywhere for a 2nd opinion.. but I am seriously debating on it.. Again thanks so much for caring..!

Hi Nancy---Sorry to hear about your horses lameness and you foot injury. Hope you both recover soon and you're back in the saddle. I've had a horse or two have the stifle surgery at Dr. Thompson's clinic in Crossville. The result was very good and solved the problem. Sorry you're missing out on this beautiful weather. I rode at Catoosa for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed it. I had some neighbors camping there for a few days and joined them for a day ride. It's not a bad drive for me, about an hour. Happy trails, Mary

Hi Nancy---I hope you're doing well. I'm feeling better and got new shoes on one of my horses tonight. Sat. and Sun. look like really good days. Would you possibly want to ride at Catoosa on either day? 931-761-2131 or 931-607-2210 Looking forward to riding with you soon, Mary

Nancy, it is on Buck Daniels Rd just outside Columbia but our mail comes from Culleoka. It is not listed so you two will have to talk. Please give me your phone number and I will have her call you. Her name is Kathy Belk. I know it will be under $200,000 but more than that is between you two. It has 3 bd and 2 baths and is in great condition with lots of curb appeal.
Blessings, Linda

Nancy, saw your email to Jackie. My next door neighbor will be selling her place. Her husband passed away a couple of months ago. What are you looking for. It is small but already set up for horses, just move in and you'll have great neighbors! It is 9ac, with barn and fenced, house has around 1400living. You could get it now before realtor commission.
Blessings, Linda

I have one looking to rent a small but really nice place, the one for sale is larger and has a bigger barn with electricity and stalls-which are you more interested in? Or do you want info for both?

Sorry to hear about your horse and your foot. Sounds like your luck is going about like mine. Was this a mutual accident? I do hope everything turns out ok.
You know when we found out about Kenneth's heart problems, we really felt like we had a battle alone, but that is not the case. So many people have had similar experiences.
Here's to our many happy trails to come!
Doc says Kenneth will be back in the saddle in 6 months, I may not can wait that long. Looking forward to riding with you someday.

Hi Nancy,
Thanks for sending me the saddle, with Kenneth having open heart surgery, us getting ready for the Davy Crockett Ride, going through re-appraisal at work, car being re-paired and a brand new roof leak that the insurance refuses to pay for, plus on top of that, I've got the flu.....
there was no way I could come to you. LOL, I guess you wouldn't want me to, with the flu and all. I already love the saddle, maybe I can put out a few of these fires and actually get to ride it soon. I sent you a check in the mail today, if for some reason you don't get it, please let me know.
Thanks again,
Vanessa
